Ipad pro Camera roll import crashes

When I am on the ipad and I'm trying to import a photo the application will sometimes crash. Is there a size limit for the photo you are trying to import? If there is a size limit, what would that be?

New canvas limit appears to be 36 megapixels, or 6000 x 6000... I was able to open this size from camera roll.
