EXPAND option for detail work

Don't know if anyone reads these forums any more, but what would be very useful is an option to resize upwards a region in an image, work on it, then auto-resize back down into the original image.

So currently, if I have a region of (for example) 500 x 500 where I need to add a lot of detail, I'll copy and paste that into a new image, resize it to (say) 3000 x 3000, work on the detail, resize it down to 500 x 500 and paste it back into the original image at the exact point, which is a time-consuming business.

What I'd love is an option whereby I just select the (r.g) 500 x 500 region, PS asks me how big to resize it (e.g. 3x, 5x, etc.), then I work on the upsized area and when I'm done click a button and it's automatically downsized and incorporated into the original image.

I'm not aware of any other software that has this function and for me at least it would save a LOT of time.
