grayscale option for navigator

I never use the navigatior because I don't work too zoomed in until the final stage where everything is down, and I feel like that is quite often the case going by tutorials I've watched, Having said that I would find it incredibly useful to check my values if I could look at my painting in black an white without breaking my work flow going by having a gray scale button on the navigator and having it enlarged on my second monitor. It seems an easy thing to add and useful to more than just me, so I thought I'd share my thoughts.

This is indeed a nice idea. Would love to see that feature implemented, too. =)

Do you mean grayscale mode for navigator?

Rad idea!
Flipping it around...
Suppose the navigator window served another purpose as a preview window for gradient mapping as well?

I guess "paintymcpaintface" means something like this (correct me if I'm wrong): (see image below)

I turned the "output saturation" for the navigator overview down to 0 (with the "Smart color correction").
For this, I would say, it is very important, that the correct lightness values will be maintained. – If you just use the "Saturation" slider of the "Hue and Saturation" tool, you would get an incorrect result in terms of the true lightness (greyscale value) of the colors being used.

Hey, I know I'm a year late but I've been looking at this thread quite a few times now and I really don't understand how you went about setting the output saturation for the navigator. Could you possibly explain it a bit more "step by step"?

Thank you!

Sorry for my late reply – I just read your question. The image you see is "faked". It is just a photo manipulation to demonstrate something. There isn't any actual option to switch the navigator to greyscale. At least not at the moment.

Any update on this? I would love to use navigator as Values reference!
